Please kindly post all your MILITARY updates, requests & corrections here and I'll action them as quickly as I can.

Hi Steve (H),

Your request of 22 September has now been completed. The HS-748 cockpit is in as NO REG (really scraping the barrel there!) and I don't think the CG-4A was the one from the Silent Wings Museum. That was fully restored in 2000 at Terrell MAP, TX, and then painted as 45-15691 when the museum moved to Lubbuck IAP, TX, in 2002 and is still on display there. They also had another (unidentified) cockpit at the same time (l/n May 2006) so doubt it can be that either.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Brian

Firstly thanks for adding the latest list, always appreciated. With regards to the CG-4A I was going off the info displayed with the aircraft and the details on their website. The Assault Glider Trust website states that the frame was supplied by Silent Wings in exchange for parts of a Horsa which they were constructing and show pictures of it being crated up in Texas to ship the the UK. It clearly isn't the one they still have but certainly appears to have come from Silent Wings so I suppose they must have had another one knocking about.

Some items missed off the last list if you could have a look when you have time please.

Supermarine 329 Spitfire IIa C/N Unknown

Hi again,

yes - I really miss the "real" travelling.

My latest wishes:

Beechcraft B200 Super King Air, MSN B-985

We have seen a C-130 USAF at the MAKS in 2003 "RS-561" (seems not to be 93-1561 according to images). Any idea?

Beech 58 Baron, MSN TJ-371 (jp airline fleets)

N112Z USDA Forest Service

I have no information about the history of the shown above aircraft. Thank you again in advance.

HI Steve,

I've made a note on the CG-4A record to say original frame came from Silent Wings Museum; The Spitfire is in (as P7540), I completely missed the Horsa and for some stupid reason I put ZM332 in as ZM330 (that's why you couldn't find it!!) - sorry.

All updated now,

Cheers, Brian

Hi Gerhard,

Your latest list has now been updated.

I think you should tell your wingman not to drink a pint of vodka before he writes down the numbers at air shows!

The MAKS 2003 show report I saw included 62-3561/D KC-135R 100 ARW parked next to 64-17681/RS C-130E 86 AW - so I think these are your birds...he just got them the wrong way round!!

HI Simon,

The Anson has been added. The TBM-700 that was F-RAXB is s/n 035 (really 35 but three digits required in the DB). I can find no Noratlas as high as 316 in my DB. Nor did they wear F-RAF- codes. I've also looked around for fake reg's and can't find anything.

I was stone cold sober when visiting the MAKS 2003 , I logged everything correctly.

Otherwise CSI Southhampton would have been asked to solve the case a couple of months ago. Your report is correct.

RS681 and 23561 just like in my notes and in my sightings for quiet a while.

Thanks in advance

Good morning, was just browsing through and tagging my pictures. I see that C-97 XA-PII is listed as both to Berlin Airlift, and preserved at the Pima Air Museum. Sadly, it was neither. The aircraft was scrapped in 2003 with the upper cockpit only at Pima Air Museum, fuselage parts are in a scrapyard next to DM AFB, or were a few years ago.

Hi Brian,

looks like I was the one with the pint of vodka... (but erdni had at least one beer on the show - I have photo proof).

As I am sober again I still have some requests.

Hi Erdni, Your Canso has now been added and the Indian Be200's corrected (I did think it strange that my DB showed them both a crashing on the same date!)

I don't believe you were stone-cold sober....maybe only half a pint of vodka on that occasion?

Chat soon!

Kind regards, Brian

Hi John,

Thanks for your notes on C-97 XA-PII. The hulk was owned by the Berlin Airlift Foundation when I noted it derelict at TUS 29.4.2002; I agree it was broken up there in 2003 and parts used to help restore 52-2718/N117GA to flying condition. The Upper cockpit did go to PASM and was still there in April 2016.

Kind regards, Brian

Hi John,

The C-12T is in the DB as 86-60084 with the US Army (as I'm led to believe all of this sequence is 6008x). Is it still with the US Army or has it now gone to the USAF do you know?

Both helo's now added for you. Glad you've manage to play catch-up on your 40 years of spotting, I've just started to enter my first trip to KDMA 08.10.77 with 1,000's to enter into the DB and I'll probably be dead before I get to play catch up on my 50 years worth!

Have a great weekend!

Prost!

Posted by erdni on 23 October 2021 - 08:49:27

Thanks Brian

that was a quick one. I caught up with 40 years of military related stuff only. Mainly because in the early days I only really cared for transports and types that also did civil air transport jobs. Now, that I got your database at my fingertips things have changed a bit. I might be through with 95% of the decent airliner stuff as well but I just started with helicopters, twins and even smaller stuff. Dennis would hate me only a little bit less if he knew that I had not much of an eye for them in the early days, also

Just in time I solved one of my announced CSI files myself. It still needs to be added:

Private (Cars&Cars) Reg: E.15-20 photos Aircraft: Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star Serial #: 580-8826

Anything found in the future related to the military will be passed over to you, including ambulance choppers that carried veterans to the hospital and cessnas that overflew countries been in war within the last 100 years. Just to keep in touch and not miss the announcement of your visit in time to buy my one way ticket to Rio.

Thanks in advance

Hi Erdni,

Glad you & Wingman are starting to get more 'up-to-date' with your aircraft types and no more Dak spotting at RMS! (I haven't been there since 1982 when the 86 TFW had F-4E !!), and I need a whole bunch of their C-130J's. That's somewhere I'm definitely going to go when I do finally make it over for a großes Bier - or 6 !!

Take care buddy.

Hi Jens,

The entire C-135 production is in the database. It was put in years ago as 707-KC-A and the first thing I did when becoming the military a/c editor a few years back was to change this to it's proper identity.

I also put out a post on 23-May-2021 headed "INFO ONLY - Military Aircraft Fleet Lists" which lists the production of some of the military types I have finished, but Gavin has not yet gotten around to listing under the 'Aircraft Types.'

Another way to access any production list is to put in one of your serial numbers and look up the record (your example 61-4840 is actually 64-14840 https://www.planelogger.com/Aircraft/Registration/64-14840/494567). when you have the record open just click on the 'Model' (a/c type) and the list will appear.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards, Brian

You got me on my least favourite air arm - France! I've updated most of your requests apart from the duplicate entry on the Caravelle (I think the civvy boys went crazy a few years ago when they put that in the db).

I'm not up on my French Airfields so am not sure what is on display outside Dassault in Bordeaux. Take a look at http://www.eurodemobbed.org.uk and see if that helps.

Hi Paul,

I'm so far behind with my logging (still in 1977) I hadn't entered any of the Swiss AF PC-7s I saw in 2002.

Hi Brian

Thanks for adding my latest list so quickly. Looks like I tried to make that a 1960's vintage F-16 but you caught me out. Just one that might need a bit of tidying up, XX109 has 2 entries for the City of Norwich Aviation Museum both dated the same so you might want to have a look at that. A few more for you to work on when time allows please.

HI Steve,

Now you're REALLY scraping the barrel with unmarked hang gliders!!

Your latest list has now been added, with some of the unknowns entered under their BAPC numbers or we'll have masses of 'NO REGS' in the DB.

Also the BP-6 "X-25" I have as BAPC.274 (not 272 - that's a Hurricane replica).

Kind regards, Brian

Hi Brian,

Just a small correction before I forgot, regarding J-5237. It crashed in 2013 not 2012.

Hi Brian,
Hope you had a great Xmas and got all your updates done. Just updating a spreadsheet here and spotted that EC-ZDF Casa Aviojet at SBAC Farnborough in 78 is on the DB as EC-ZDF but when you click on it for further details it comes up as EC-ZDZ. I think you were at the same show as me and here is a link http://www.aviationcorner.net/show_photo_en.asp?id=194137 showing a photo of said aircraft with the id clearly on show. Can you check to see if there has been a mix up or did it get re-regd to EC-ZDZ subsequently.
Many thanks and heres to a Happy & Healthy New Year for us all.
Cheers Brian,
Greg
