My Sightings

Hello,

Still loving the site, discovering it has started me spotting and the r a 15 year break. I have now entered over 14000 sightings.

I was wondering if there is any way I can protect my data in the event of the website closing down or something like that, just in case, as I have entered some sightings directly into the site.

Regards Simon

Hi,

Good point Simon, I am in the same position and being able to back up my sightings from the DB would provide a bit of security in case there were an issue with the website in the future.

Same thing, if we could download an excel sheet just in case.

I absolutely agree with you guys.

I would appreciate a possibility to print out all my REGs entered after every year is finished !

As a general overview and as well as a backup !!!

Pls advise if possible

Thx

Happy landings Jens

From the point of view of a (hesitant) new user, I am wondering the same thing. Why should I begin to enter my sightings here with no potential for backup when there is a chance that the site will disappear some day, or just suffer a data loss? Where would my records be then?

Hi everyone,

It's possible to create your own back-up files if you are familiar with spreadsheets. In my case that means using an Excel Workbook on my PC. It's then a case of highlighting the data from 'My Sightings' (that which appears beneath the sortable headings - max 100 entries at a time), and then doing a simple copy & paste into the workbook (match destination formatting in Excel). Once in place the data is sortable by column (tip - delete column F, which is blank).

Hope this is of help to someone.

Way to go Rob, great idea. That will keep us busy for the winter.
Many thanks,
Greg
