Photos Links

Hello,

Noticed that some registrations are linked to Flickr and other sites. Is there a way for a user to link to their photos on Flickr?

Thanks,

Stephen

Unfortunately there is not a way of doing this at present - we just use the Flickr API to search for the registration, and pull back any hits from Flickr for that registration.

I'd like to add the ability for users to upload their own photos at some point, but it needs to be decided how this is going to work first. Anyone any thoughts on what they would like to see regarding photo uploads?

Hello,

I have no real problem with the flickr api process. Just curious to how is worked? For example, I have 3 public shots of C-FLAP on flickr, yet the details page for C-FLAP has no image available. There are countless other reg's that have no image available, yet are on Flickr.

One option for an upload, would be a thumbnail size image upload page with url link to an image or two stored in the DB.

Thanks,

Stephen

Stephen,

To avoid any potential copyright issues, the site is configured to only use Flickr images that have been made available under Creative Commons licences. Additionally, I recently modified the search to also check for images tagged as "Aircraft" to prevent the non-aviation pictures that were appearing occasionally.

So if you tag the image with "Aircraft" and the registration, and make it available under a creative commons license, then it will show up on here (assuming there are no other images tagged the same, in which case only the first image returned by Flickr will be used).

I would certainly like to move to using user submitted images on here, but there are a few other features that are more pressing, so it might need to wait a few months before we can offer that.

regards

Gavin

Gavin I've loaded 3 aircraft photos onto flickr, set the rights to Creative Commons and tagged them as aircraft and the Registration, yet they're not appearing. Does it take time for these to be "found" by the site, or am I missing something? Cheers
