Early next year, Biman Bangladesh will retire their last DC-10, the last such DC-10 still in commercial service.

They will operate a final flight from Dhaka to Birmingham(UK). Once in Birmingham they are considering doing a couple of 1hr sightseeing tours for aviation enthusiasts. The aircraft will then be flown to a museum in the USA, they are also hoping to sell tickets on this flight if the US will allow them permission.

I'm looking forward to hearing more information on these flights. I'm a big fan of the DC-10 and i'd certainly love to fly on one again before it is too late. Looks like this might be my last chance!

If I had some extra time off of work, and cash I would consider something like this. However, I still do consider myself lucky enough to have flown on the DC 10 2Xs. Both flights were Air France flights from MIA to CDG back in 1992 and in 1993 after AF had purchased UTA. Both 10s were operated in UTA colors.

I would love if it did a round the world tour so I could see it here (MEL) but I know that would never happen. I have never seen a DC-10, Are there any freighters?

Not sure if FedEx is still operating, but they have/had DC 10s and the MD 10 which is/was an updated DC 10 with more modern flight deck instruments and controls as well as a 2 pilot flight deck instead of 2 pilots and a flight engineer. Also, I know it is not a DC 10, but KLM is planning on phasing out it's last MD 11s early next year.

Fedex has 63 DC-10's still in service. The US Airforce has around 59 KC-10 tankers which are based on the DC-10, apparently these will remain in service until 2043!

Thats a lot of DC-10s and thats only 2 of the operators, I haven't seen many MD-11s either (only 3), I would love to go to europe and try to get a KLM MD-11 before they are retired.

Dates for Biman Bangladesh Airlines DC-10 Farewell Flights

The dates for the Biman Bangladesh Airlines DC-10 farewell flights have been confirmed to Aviation News magazine. The first scenic flight from Birmingham Airport, England will take place at 0900 on February 24. Only one flight will initially show as available though when that is full other flights will be opened up for sale, up to a maximum of nine. If there is demand, flights will be flown at 0900, 1200 and 1500 on February 22, 23 and 24. For the last flight Ian Allan Aviation Tours will have for sale 50% of the seats (www.ianallantravel.com/aviationtours/), the rest on that flight and for the other scenic flights will be able to be booked on the airline’s website www.biman-airlines.com. Only window and the adjacent seat will be sold for these flights with a window seat costing £150 and the adjacent one £100, except for the last scenic flight which will be £200 for a window seat and £150 for the adjacent one.

The aircraft, S2-ACR, will fly from Dhaka to Birmingham on February 20, with a fuel stop en route (probably Kuwait though to be confirmed). All seats will be sold on the aircraft for this flight and will be able to be booked on the airline’s website. Tickets will go on sale for these farewell flights on January 14 or possibly sooner.

That's my seat booked for the final flight on 24th. Is anyone else planning on going on the final flight?
