Today marks the end of operations for AirBerlin / AirBerlin group with the arrival of AB6210 into Tegel from Munich. the Niki brand will be retired once acquired by the Lufthansa group. No mention of the LTU Airways LGW or Belair brands though. This is the 2nd airline to cease operations following the collapse of British Holiday maker Monarch Airlines.
A very sad day. They were the 7th largest airline in Europe, I believe. A lot of people affected, customers, suppliers and of course the employees.
Indeed - another sad day for aviation.
Sadly it seems to be the way the market is moving, Easyjet and Ryanair are just too big and powerful in the European market, leaving little room for smaller carriers.
Monarch and Air Berlin wont be the only casualties unfortunately.
