A Malaysian Airlines 777-200ER disappeared from radar while operating flight MH370 (KUL-PEK) last night, and is assumed to have crashed into the sea. The flight was operated by 9M-MRO, and there were 227 passengers, 12 crew on board.

Terrible news as these incidents always are. Sooner or later I suppose we'll find out what went wrong. The 777 is quite a robust machine!

Incredibly robust! In 20 years of service, there have only been 4 hull losses so far, with only one of those proving fatal (3 passengers killed last year on the Asiana flight which landed short of the runway at SFO.)

It's quite a mystery as to why such a reliable plane has just disappeared without a trace.
