Ireland will begin issuing EJ-XXXX sequence registrations as from 1st June 2015. It's not clear under what circumstances these will be issued rather than an EI-XXX registration.

I wonder why they intend to use four digits instead of three. As they open the new sequence, there should be lots of possible combinations again. Does anyone know if irish registrations might be re-used?

I wonder if it is partly because of the number of foreign aircraft registered in Ireland - eg Transaero, Alitalia. It might be logical for them to register foreign airlines with EJ and Irish operators with EI, for example. Or, as has been suggested, recycle old registrations.
